David Gillingham earned Bachelor and Master Degrees in Instrumental Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and the PhD in Music Theory/Composition from Michigan State University. Dr. Gillingham has an international reputation for the works he has written for band and percussion. Many of these works are now considered standards in the repertoire. His commissioning schedule dates well into the the future.
Ben Skinner has been active in the arts as a freelance musician, educator and consultant for four decades. He has performed with orchestras throughout south Florida, on internationally released albums and television. He has founded numerous musical groups and several school music programs. After conducting local community bands for several years and at the urging of local musicians, Ben realized that a professional -level wind band was needed. Thus, the inception of the Palm Beach Winds.
In the 2019-2020 season, the Palm Beach Winds are thrilled to present the Composer-in-Residence Series featuring renowned, internationally acclaimed composers, conducting their own works. This unique series offers a glimpse of the wind band through the eyes of the people who actually conceive the future of the art form.
